Description

This is a copy of an original photograph that was in the possession of Charles Pope a RN Stoker. Charles served between 1918 and 1945. Charles poses in a vest, blackened by the oil, soot and grease from the Boiler room. He stands next to a colleague on the deck of HMS Sardonyx. Charles served aboard the Sardonyx from 19th December 1936 to April 1938 when she was part of the home fleet and Charles was attached to HMS Victory. Photographs and documents relating to Charles' RN service can be viewed on line at the West Wales Veterans Archive in the Charles Pope collection. The original photographs and documents remain in the custody of the family.
