Description

Tylorstown station on the Rhondda Fach branch of the Taff Vale Railway (TVR) about 1900 with a steam engine visible under the road bridge leading to Stanleytown. The postcard was glued into an album so the publisher is not known. The station opened to passengers in 1877 and was closed in 1964. The railway itself continued to serve as a mineral line for local collieries until 1986 when the coal from Mardy Colliery, the last pit in the Rhondda, was extracted via Tower Colliery, near Aberdare.
