Description
This news clipping reports on the Gwyrfai Rural District Council's decision on whether to support the proposed holiday camp at Penychain on the Lleyn Peninsula. Despite overall support by local authorities, there were concerns even at this stage of the impact of opening a holiday camp in a "purely Welsh district" and views that the camp should be acquired for the benefit of Welsh cultural activities. Those supporting the camp felt there was a danger of "narrow-mindedness" and of being seen to be prejudiced against another nation, of "trying to keep all English people out of Wales". The camp would offer holidays for workers and those on lower incomes. Those opposed suggested a visit to Barry on a Sunday to see the negative effects of the camp there on Glamorganshire.
