Description

Edwin Cross sent a large number of photographs to his sister Muriel during the First World War, showing scenes he witnessed while serving in India with the Machine Gun Corps. The image shows Gurkhas in Abbottabad (now in Pakistan), October 1917: the inscription on the back of the image on the left reads "Gurkhas giving a draft for 'Mespots' [Mesopotamia?] a send off. Abbotabad. Oct 1917".
