Had my first job here when leaving school in 1976, my mother worked here from the age of 15 til she retired at 65 and when she had us 6 children the factory used to deliver work in vans the our house , even my father worked in the wearhouse for a time and my brother learned his trade and later became an official Singer sewing machine mechanic , there was about 1000 people working here at one time and it boasted that you could be measured for a suit and coat and by the time you toured the factory you suit and coat would be waiting for you at the end, good times, Paul Vaughan

Thank you for leaving a comment and sharing your memories of the factory and its relationship with your family. It would be great to add to the collection of items on the People’s Collection about Alexon House – do you have any photos you can upload?
