Description
Cockett is a community of Swansea which developed in thelate nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This aerial photograph shows a part of Crockett, including St Peter's church (with wedding in progress), Station Road, housing and the Crockett Creamery owned by the Milk Marketing Board.
In various Milk Marketing Board records of the 1930s, there is mention of their "Swansea Creamery" in Station Road, Cockett. On the fourth edition of the Ordnance Survey 25in map of 1940, a milk depot is shown at the given National Grid Reference in Station Road; it also appears on the 1970 edition. The site has since been demolished and built over.
Nearby in Cwmbach Road at National Grid Reference SS 6294 9514, stood an unspecified "Warehouse" which may have had some connection with the Creamery (as a possible butter store?). The building has been demolished and built over; its exact function awaits further investigation.
If you know more about this creamery, please add a comment below or upload a photograph.
