Description

This is a piece from the borehole on the Straight Mile in 1910. The rock is thought to be mudstone belonging to the Carboniferous period [359 - 299 million years ago].
This drilling proved that the coal measures continued in a dip to the east. It was important in establishing Llay Main Colliery on its site on Rackery Lane.
