Description

Just to the east of Western Cemetery is Green Farm – today the farmhouse serves as a hostel for homeless people, but was a thriving farm well into the twentieth century. During the First World War when many farm workers were called up to serve in the armed forces, women were recruited to help out on farms such as Green Farm. Listen to Agnes Greatorex talk about being a land girl during WWI at Green Farm http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01s9w7h
