Description
Continuing on into town, across the zebra crossing on the other side of the road, is the brick-built Bethesda Baptist Chapel. The original building dated to 1838, but it was rebuilt in 1896 to a design by Architect Thomas E Morgan of Aberystwyth in the Victorian Gothic style. High up on the front facade is a plaque which reads ‘Bethesda, Addoldy y Bedyddwyr, adeiladwyd 1896’.
When a census of chapels and churches was undertaken in 1851 for the older chapel, it was recorded that Lewis Roberts was the minister and that attendance in the morning was 12 scholars, in the afternoon 18 scholars, and in the evening 20 scholars.
The chapel is now a private residence.
