Built of polished red granite, it is a 16 feet overall obelisk on pedestal with corniced and pedimented cap and three-step base. There is a granite kerb ring around, originally with railings. The inscription on the pedestal reads 'erected by steam trawler owners and people of Ostend who were resident in this town during the Great War 1914-1919' and repeated in Flemish.
