Rhiwbach tramway crossing Llyn Bowydd dam, 2008
Pencil, ink and watercolour on paper, 13 x 28 cm
The Rhiwbach tramway connected several quarries on the north side of Manod Mawr and at the head of Cwm Penmachno to the Festiniog Railway. Here the tramway crossed the stone-banked dam that impounded Llyn Bowydd, a reservoir for the slate quarries. The line is gently graded to allow wagons to move by gravity as far as the counterbalance drum house that can be seen in the distance, at the head of the first of three inclines leading down to Blaenau Ffestiniog.
