Description
Drawn by Falcon Hildred
Maenofferen quarry - winding house, 1999
Pencil, ink and watercolour on paper, 16 x 25 cm
The drawing emphasises the cramped site for the winding house in a small surface quarry where the main incline to the underground galleries reached the surface. Slate blocks were raised at first by steam power, and the two-stage chimney marks the site of the old boiler house. Electric motors were installed in 1911. The roof and chimney of the unhooker's office and the lines of the incline and the short tunnel to the mill are also shown.#
