Description

This early photograph shows 1 Commercial Street - which was then Evans Jewellery shop. This building was replaced in the early Edwardian period by The George public house which has a distinctive glazed brick frontage. The next building has been replaced by The Greyhouse public house, whilst beyond that is the frontage of The Lion Building which at this time contained the Butter Market and was later became Fowlers Department store and the lower entrance to the new Market Building.
