Description

Included in picture: Foreman Ralph Tucker, Recorder Fleming Williams,Portreeve Douglas, Bradshaw, Sid Edwards and Trevor John ("hoisters") and Eric Pearce,(halbedere). Names of some of the 26 hoisting places are: Beggar's Bush, Common Back, Feather Bed Lane, Kite Rock, Merry Moor, Moildin Bit, Oaten Cake and Cheese and Warrior's Lane. Any person who, when asked, does not know the name of the location is hoisted upside down by the constables and "beaten". Originally this was a way of encouraging local youths to be knowledgeable about the lands owned by the Corporation.
