Description

The building of the Docks and its opening in 1889 led to a huge increase in population, with thousands of tradesmen and their families settling in this 'Boom Town'. As a consequence, this would lead to many more people dying. A new cemetery had to be built and there was an opportunity for enterprising men to set up new businesses caring for the bereaved families.
