Ingredients



  • short-crust pastry

  • currants

  • sugar

  • black treacle



Method



  • Line an oven-proof plate with pastry, rolled out fairly thinly.

  • Cover with a thick layer of currants and add sugar and black treacle to taste.

  • Seal with a second layer of pastry and bake in a hot oven.



Cacen gyrens would be one of the cakes prepared for Sunday tea on Bardsey Island.
