Description

Laid down in 1870 at Pembroke Dockyard, she was launched in 1875. She was the first warship designed to use compound engines and was also the first warship to be ventilated throughout. The Dreadnought was armed with four 12 1/2 inch rifled muzzle loading guns. She had a maximum speed of 14.52 knots and carried a crew of 369.
