Description
This standing stone is made of Old Red Sandstone and possibly dates from the Bronze Age. Located at the junction between two valleys it might be a territorial marker or mark an ancient trackway. A few legends are associated with the stone, one being that whenever a cock crows, the stone moves off to drink in the River Llia. According to another story, the stone visits the River Mellte on Midsummer morning. This could originate from the fact that when the sun is low in the evening sky the stones shadow is cast across the moorland as far as the river.
