Description

Tinkinswood Burial Chamber dates from the Neolithic period of Britain. Originally covered in earth, the burial chamber is all that remains of what was once a village. The dolmen is of the Severn-Cotswold tomb type and is made of Limestone weighing about 40tons, a similar weight to an articulated lorry. It is one of the largest in Britain. This burial chamber housed around 920 human bones from over 50 individuals, broken pottery and flint were also found in the excavation of 1914.
