Choir to sing at Belgian music festival
CARDIFF POLYPHONIC CHOIR have left Wales for an engagement at one of Europe's top music festivals-and before they went they staged a quick rehearsal (pictured alongside) with Richard Elfyn Jones, their accompanist, conducting.
The 41-strong choir will sing Mozart's Requiem in the Sint-Walburgakerk Cathedral, Bruges, Belgium, tomorrow evening at their contribution to the 12th annual International Mozart Music Festival.
Manager Gareth Bowen said: “This is a very distinguished Festival, and we are very proud to have been asked to attend. Most of the choir members are teachers and students, and many have altered their holiday plans specially to make the trip.”
The choir will sing with the London Mozart Players, conducted by Harry Blech-an orchestra with whom the choir performed a very successful concert at the Royal Festival Hall, London, in 1970.
Also in 1970 the choir represented Britain at Expo ‘70 in Osaka, Japan. Next year they are off to North America for the fifth time.
