Letter written to Thomas Benbow Phillips at Rio Grande from Joao Fransisco Froes at Liverpool dated 7 March 1851

Since writing to Thomas Benbow Phillips at St Pedro, J F Froes reported that he had received interesting advice from Rio Grande and had numerous enquiries from all parts of Wales, so that he had every confidence many Welshmen would emigrate. He had articles included every week in the “Amserau” and in several other Welsh papers. The cost to him personally had been £10 and he had autorized Evan Evans to spend £20 more and to offer assisted passages for £100, which he himself was prepared to advance. Thomas Benbow Phillips's relative – Mr Benbow – was ready to go out with his wife and eight others during April or May. Other families from Breconshire were also preparing to leave, as well as Mr Smith and twenty others, therefore he thought there was a possibility of about one hundred people leaving in April and May. J F Froes wanted a plan of the land that Thomas Benbow Phillips had located, its quality and price. He chastized him for suggesting that the Irish colony was an entire failure when he himself had letters to the contrary, and told Thomas Benbow Phillips to be very careful not to share misleading information. J F Froes was also enclosing letters for Thomas Benbow Phillips.
