Description

Letter written to Thomas Benbow Phillips by Michael D Jones at Y Bala dated 23 June 1869

Mr Lewis Jones had returned from the Colony of the Chubut to fetch a cargo of emigrants from Wales. Michael D Jones praised Lewis Jones's changed attitude, reported that the Colony was flourishing and thousands would be emigrating within a few years. A ship would be carrying cattle out in November and could carry Thomas Benbow Phillips from Rio Negro to the Chupat. The recent wheat crop had been a success and things were at last looking up in the Colony. Michael D Jones thanked Thomas Benbow Phillips for his “carte de visite”, enclosed his own and hoped to hear that Thomas Benbow Phillips had gone to the Colony of the Chupat.
