Description

Incendiary bombs were used as markers by bombers during air raids. They did not explode but burst into flames, providing beacons showing the air crews where to drop their bombs.

This incendiary bomb is a German one, and was dropped near the Royal Ordnance Factory, Bridgend, during the Second World War. Part of the factory occupied the building where the South Wales Police Headquarters is now situated. It was defused and a section cut out, so that it could be used as a teaching aid for training purposes.
