Women's Voluntary Service (WVS) uniform beret. Printing inside states 'WVS Civil Defence', manufacturer's name and size 10 1/2.

This forms part of a Women's Voluntary Service (WVS) uniform worn by Beatrice Partridge. Beatrice was a leader in the WVS and helped run the Joan and Derby Club at St. Dyfrig’s Church in Llanrumney. The Joan and Derby Club met once a week and provided activities for older people.

WVS, now the Royal Voluntary Service was established in 1938 by Lady Steller Reading. It was initially set up to help recruit women into the Air Raid Precautions (ARP) should war break out.
