Description

In 1911 and 1913 women from Wales marched in London with this banner to protest for the right to vote. It belonged to the Cardiff and District Women’s Suffrage Society . This was one of the biggest suffrage societies outside London. They believed in lobbying for change through peaceful means.
Rose Mabel Lewis, President of the Society, made the banner. It’s embroidered with the words Tros Rhyddid (For Freedom).
On 17 June 1911 she led the south Wales section in the Women’s Coronation Procession in London. About 40,000 to 50,000 men and women took part in the march.
