Description
This example is from a letter of John Peckham, Archbishop of Canterbury (about 1230-92) to King Edward I, describing the death of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd in 1282. Translated into Welsh in this recording as part of a wider project by Dr Mark Redknap in 2007, on Medieval languages used in Wales through the ages. Transcription of the audio passage [Welsh language translation]Arglwydd, bydded i chi wybod bod y rhai a fu'n bresennol pan fu farw Llywelyn wedi canfod ynghudd ar ei gorff rhai pethau bychain. Ymysg pethau eraill roedd llythyr bradwrus wedi'i gelu รข ffugenwau. Er mwyn eich rhybuddio, anfonwyd gopi o'r llythyr at esgob Caerfaddon. Mae'r gwreiddiol, ag arno selnod cyfrin Llywelyn, ym meddiant Edmund Mortimer, ac fe gewch chi'r pethau hyn os dymunwch. Anfonwn hwn i'ch rhybuddio, ac nid i achosi trafferth i neb. Gobeithiwn na fydd neb yn dioddef marwolaeth neu anaf o ganlyniad i'n gwybodaeth, ac y caiff yr hyn a anfonwn atoch ei gadw'n gyfrinachol. [Listen to audio transcript in the original Anglo-Norman]
