Description

A letter from Henry Jones, a native of Llanfihangel-y-Pennant who has emigrated to Holland Patent, New York State, to his brother and sister, dated 18 September 1850.

Henry says that he has come across many acquaintances from Merioneth. He mentions the celebrations which were held at Utica on 4 July, 'Independence Day'. He is in excellent health and his English is improving rapidly. His employer has remarked that he is as fluent as many of those who have lived in America for five years. He believes that he could converse in English with his brother Ellis's wife when he returns home.

He does not want his sister to send him anything from home as many things, such as clothes, are a good deal cheaper in America. However, he would be glad to receive the poem which his father and uncle Morris composed for him.
