Description

Hebron, Cymmer was established in the Afan Valley as a result of the missionary activity of the Reverend Abraham Tibbott.

Interesting to note that the 1847 Church Record (above) uses the spelling of "Cymmar" or Cymar" (Welsh) rather than the current "Cymmer" or "Cymer". Incidentally, the link to the "Map" shows the wrong Cymmer!!! The map depicts the area of Cymmer adjacent to Porth in the Rhondda valley, whereas the Cymmer relating to the Church Record is in the Afan Valley. There are, of course, many Cymmers in Wales, as the word translates from the Welsh as "Place where two rivers join".

Correct map now in place - many thanks! The chapel building (still standing but now derelict) is on Craig-y-Fan Terrace.
