Description

This is a poster advertising a performance of Dr Coward's Magna Charta in 1908. It was performed in Tabernacle Baptist Church, Porth, Rhondda. A creature of its time, the poster shows the main performers and organisers delineated by reference to where they lived. The poster proudly celebrates cultural experience amongst a mining community. By later standards of Christian practice, it is possibly controversially performed on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Proceeds are wonderfully described as in aid of 'chapel debt.'
