Description

John writes that his hand has almost healed completely and he mentions the health of the other Welsh boys.

He says that much has changed in their company - their Captain has fled and their First Lieutenant has been discharged. Their company is the second largest in the regiment.

The rebels threw a number of shells at them yesterday but John says that they (the Union side) have about a hundred cannons on every mile of the line, three lines of infantry as well as the cavalry. He says that he can throw a stone from the rifle pits which lands in the rebel forts.

According to John, a pint of bitter costs twenty-five cents.
