Description

Chondrites are made of small spheres (chondrules) that clumped together in the early solar system. The Earth would have originally formed from material like this.

Meteorites enter the atmosphere from space at a temperature of less than - 200 ⁰C and a speed of up to 70 km/s. Friction with the atmosphere heats the surface of the rocks to boiling point in a few seconds.
