Description

While stationed at 16 Maintenance Unit RAF Stafford, Ray was selected for attachment to T.S.W
(Tactical Support Wing ). He was on a training exercise in Denmark when trouble flared up in Belize because Guatemala were threatening to invade Belize and bomb the runway at Belize city airport to stop the Hawker Hunter aircraft returning.
Ray and his team flew out in a Hercules to Belize on the 7-7-1977. They arrived with Harrier Jump Jets which didn't need a runway as they could take off and land vertically. Ray's job was to re-fuel and re-supply the Harriers in scattered jungle clearings. However, the air raid never occurred, Guatemala returned back over the border and Ray stayed for nine weeks and came home in September.
