Description

Lomax served as Station Officer at the Llantwit Major Coastguard Station from 1934 to 1950 and took part in a number of rescues, notably that of the crew of the French ketch "Ideal" in 1938. The rescue involved the use of rockets to which were attached ropes. It took nine attempts to successfully land a rocket on the vessel and subsequently a breeches buoy was set up to take the crew off the vessel.
