Description
A few hundred metres from the old Era quarry there are ruins of the quarry's gunpowder and detonator storage buildings. The walls were strongly built and they were originally lime plastered and whitewashed inside and out to reflect the heat from the sun. The detonators were stored in a seperate section of the building and the roofs of both were deliberatly made to blow off easily in the event of an accident, thus directing the blast upwards instead of outwards. The white building could be seen from far off, glinting in the sun.
