Description

Photographs submitted by Wendy Sully of  Usk Valley, Monmouthshire, Wales

Mary Llewellyn (Wendy's mother) was born in June 1906, second of the eleven children of William Robert LLEWELLYN and Mary Ann WEEKS. William was from Six Bells and his parents farmed near Manmoel, Argoed. Mary Ann, was born near King's Head, Abertillery. The photograph (Image 1) (left), taken circa 1919, shows Mary Llewellyn (seated) with her friends Edie Trim (left) and Olive Jones (right). The picture was taken at 57 Areal Street, Six Bells. Mary herself lived in Areal Street at that time, but not at this address. In 1926, Mary married Arthur Morgan, also of Abertillery. Arthur was the eldest son of Thomas George Morgan and Mary Ann Harvey who kept The Crown in Blaenau Gwent for a number of years. Arthur died in 1957 and four years later Mary married again, to Morton Tarrant of Cwm.

The three girls are shown in close-up below.

Wendy Sully says, "Edie's family came from Bristol. Both Edie and Olive have since passed away, but on 5th June 2006, Mary celebrated her 100th birthday in Bristol. She herself passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on 30th April 2007 in her 101st year."

George BootsGeorge Boots was Mary Llewellyn's brother-in-law; he married her younger sister.

Wendy Sully says, "The photo of my Uncle George Boots was taken around 1915 when he was about one year old. He was born in Aberbeeg where the photo was taken, as far as I know."
