Brecknock, 7 December 1839

Sir/
Reg v William Jones

I did not receive your Letter of the
5th Instant dated at Newport until seven
O'Clock, yesterday evening by the Coachman
of the Gloucester and Milford Mail, who
stated he received it from the Landlord of the
Beaufort Arms at Monmouth - who told
him he had received it too late for the Post -
though the Mail arrived about four, he did
not deliver it until the above Hour - I
immediately shewed it to the Magistrates
though it was then too late to cause the
Prisoner and Witnesses to be sent to
Newport on Saturday - And he is now
sent to Monmouth with the Witnesses
who will herewith bring you their
Original Examinations and a Letter from
the Mayor of Brecon to the Mayor of
Monmouth -

I have advanced them the -
following sums, which you will be pleased
to cause to be remitted to me -
Three Coach fares 11/. __1 . 13 . 0

Towards their Expences __0. 10 . 0 2.3.0

I am Sir
Yours obediently
Wal Churchey
