Betty Campbell: The inspirational story of Wales’ first black head teacher
A young girl, Betty Campbell was told that achieving her dream of becoming a teacher would be impossible, yet she managed to become the first black head teacher in Wales in the 1970s and is now recognised as an important authority on education and a leading academic.
During the 1980s, Betty became a member of the board of BBC Wales, overseeing editorial and production issues and was also awarded an MBE for services to education and community life. Betty has also represented the Butetown ward in Cardiff.
Here is her story, in her own words.
