Murieal was born in St Kitts and came to the UK in November 1961, after a long journey by sea. “I was very, very nervous. But of course, there were five of us in the cabin. We were the same, in the same situation. So we like, we made friends, we would sing. So there was two of us from St. Kitts [and we were] scared actually of the soldiers. So we used to make sure the doors was always locked”.

One of the first things she noticed about the UK was the difference in temperature! “It was hard, it was cold, it was freezing. I didn't like it at all. It was raining, it didn't stop raining, it rained for days. So different to St Kitts because you get heavy showers there, you get hurricane and all that, but it's so different, it was so different - nice, hot, friendly.”.

But she quickly settled and made friends, “ my friends would meet and we'd play the calypso, the music, and we'd dance, make up a room, you know. A lot of fun, fun together And the steel band music You know, in Pill Carnival, that's one time they used to have the steel drum band.”

Roedden ni i gyd yn yr un sefyllfa. Felly fe ddaethon ni’n ffrindiau gyda’n gilydd a bydden ni'n canu. Felly roedd dau ohonom o St Kitts [ac roedden ni’n] ofnus y milwyr mewn gwirionedd. Felly roedden ni'n gwneud yn siŵr bod y drysau wedi'u cloi bob amser”.

Un o'r pethau cyntaf iddi sylwi am y DU oedd y gwahaniaeth mewn tymheredd! “Roedd hi’n anodd, roedd hi'n oer, roedd hi’n iasoer. Doeddwn i ddim yn hoffi hi o gwbl. Roedd hi'n bwrw glaw, wnaeth hi ddim stopio bwrw glaw, roedd hi'n bwrw glaw am ddyddiau. Mor wahanol i St Kitts, oherwydd eich bod chi'n cael cawodydd trwm yno, rydych chi'n cael corwynt a pethau fel ‘na, ond mae mor wahanol, roedd mor wahanol - braf, poeth, cyfeillgar.”

Ond fe setlodd yn gyflym a gwnaeth lawer o ffrindiau, “byddai fy ffrindiau'n dod at ei gilydd a bydden ni’n chwarae'r calypso, y gerddoriaeth, a byddem yn dawnsio, yn gwneud i fyny ystafell, wyddoch chi. Llawer o hwyl, hwyl gyda'n gilydd. A'r gerddoriaeth band dur. Chi'n gwybod, yng Ngharnifal Pill, dyna un tro roedden nhw'n arfer cael y band drwm dur.”

جنم سینٹ کٹس میں ہوا اور نومبر 1961 میں بحری سفر کے بعد برطانیہ آئیں۔ "میں بہت زیادہ گھبراہٹ محسوس کر رہا تھا۔ لیکن طبیعی طور پر، ہم پانچ افراد کی کیبن میں تھے۔ ہمیں ایک جیسی صورتحال میں دیکھ کر دوست بنانے لگے، ہم گاتے تھے۔ سنٹ کٹس سے دونوں ہم اور ایک دوسرے سے ڈرتے تھے۔ تو ہم یہ یقینی بناتے کہ دروازے ہمیشہ بند رہے۔"

برطانیہ میں ان کی پہلی چیزیں میں سے ایک درجہ حرارت کا فرق تھا! "یہ مشکل تھا، یہ سرد تھا، یہ منجمد تھا۔ مجھے یہ بالکل بھی پسند نہیں آیا۔ بارش ہو رہی تھی، اور بارش رکتی نہیں تھی، دنوں تک بارش ہوتی رہی۔ سینٹ کٹس سے بہت مختلف تھا، کیونکہ وہاں زوردار بارشیں ہوتی ہیں، آندھی بھی آتی ہے، لیکن یہ بہت مختلف تھا، بہت مختلف تھا - خوش، گرم، دوستانہ۔".

لیکن جلد ہی وہ قائم ہوگئی اور دوست بنا لی۔ "میرے دوست ملتے اور ہم کیلپسو، موسیقی، اور ہم ناچنا شروع کرتے، کمرہ قائم کرتے تھے۔ بہت مزیدار، ملاقاتیں ایک ساتھ اور سٹیل بینڈ کی موسیقی۔ آپ جانتے ہیں، پل کارنیول میں، وہ وقت تھا جب وہ ویلڈ اسٹیل ڈرم بینڈ رکھتے تھے۔"
