Gunner M. Charles Jenkins, 1587, served with the 121st Battery Royal Field Artillery. Transcript: Dear Mother and Madge Just a few lines to say I received parcel quite safe and enjoyed contents it was grand. It was 9 days coming but the contents kept grand in the tin box. Well dears I am glad to hear yo are all quite well as it leaves me at present. Well dears we are on the move again to do a bit more good work I am glad to see by the papers that we are advancing well in the places where we were. I think the Allies are doing grand work all round but it has been a hard struggle but I think the Germans are beginning to loose heart. Well dears I am glad to say we are having grand weather it is a treat to shift from one place to another and see the country I am glad to hear you have had plenty of sewing as it comes as a great help. My word I expect Mrs Maiden didn't like having to go. I think it was the best thing you would do if she was like that. I hope the one you have now is al right as it is rotten to keep changing. Dear Mother when you see Nell tell her I've received her letter today. It is the first since I wrote to her. It is a pity the letters go astray for I can tell you we look downhearted if the post comes and there is nothing for us but we can't expect one every post. Yes I believe you are right about some of them not thinking there is a war on. !t has been a hell of a time for us I can tell you we have not forgotten it. Well dears I think this is all for now give my love to all an expect same from your loving son and brother. Charlie
