Description

Postcard of Highland Moors military hospital (a former hotel), Llandrindod Wells. After 1915 Llandrindod (a spa town) became a treatment centre for soldiers suffering from myalgia (or 'trench fever') e.g. Chalybeate water treatment, hot baths, massage, electric heat on the skin, and early forms of physiotherapy. At the war's height the spa did about 600 treatments per week (1917/1918), and by the end of the war 100,000 treatments had been done.
