Description

St Therese’s Catholic Primary School. The original building opened in January, 1959 under the leadership of Mother Benedict, a formidable lady of the Poor Clare order of nuns. Canon M. Quilligan, the Manager of the School, inspired the people who lived on the Sandfields Estate by using the new School Hall for Mass each Sunday and Holy Days and in providing children with a Catholic School within easy access. The School continued to expand and develop outliving its predicted life-span of twenty years until the 9th June 1994 when the old buildings were demolished. The staff and pupils watched this historic occasion from their new school. From 1964 to 1996, St Therese’s, was served by Mr. P. Waters and Mrs. S. Cunningham respectively as Headteachers. From 1996 to the present it has been under the headship of Mr. A. McCarthy.
