Description

A 19th century on duty armband with brass buckle. Worn on a police tunic to signify that the officer was 'on duty'. In the early days of policing....policemen were required to be in uniform at all times. This signified the difference to being on or off duty. This armband was one of a number of items that were owned by former Bute Docks Police and Cardiff Railway Police Constable Herbert H. Hunt. Bute Docks wore brass metal items on their uniforms.
