Description

A fire destroyed UCW College Hall, Aberystwyth, in August 1933. Photographed as it happened by Glynn Pickford who owned a photography shop on Pier Street.
In 1997 he remembered the event: 'I just happened to be ready for it and turned the camera sideways so that I captured the smoke billowing up. My father and a friend rushed the prints up to Manchester, where all the national papers had offices, and they gave me the front-page treatment. It was the best scoop I ever had' (Cambrian News, 24/4/1997).
