Description

Drawing by Falcon Hildred
Pant yr Afon - powerhouse and details,1969
This drawing shows some of the engineering features clustered at Pant yr Afon. The hydroelectric power house was designed to provide a private electricity supply to the adjacent quarries. The drawing in the bottom left shows a Johnson & Philips 175-kilowatt generator, which still operates and now supplies the National Grid. The crane, bridge pier and tunnel portal with the datestone of 1876 were all associated with the railway from Blaenau Ffestiniog through the mountain to the Conwy valley.
