Description

S S PORTHCAWL - this ship was built at Burntisland in 1923 and was owned by The Porthcawl Steamship Co. Ltd. based in Cardiff (they went bust in 1932/33). In September 1933, while carrying a cargo of esparto grass, she caught fire off the east coast of England and when flames spread throughout the ship it was necessary to beach her at Caister, Norfolk.
