Hawys Glyn James

Seeing the Yeti is this guest's first memory of television. She bought a television set as a result of an interest in politics. She speaks of the illegal Welsh radio station which would broadcast for short periods during the evenings, and about the night the local policeman visited the house while they were broadcasting from the bedroom. Tryweryn and her memories of the protests there are discussed. She speaks of the Aberfan disaster and how television conveys emotion and remembers the terrible images of men digging with their hands. Whilst discussing Devolution she speaks of her honeymoon in London in 1955, her husband had arranged a honeymoon there to hand in a petition supporting a parliament bill for Wales at Westminster; she also remembers the thrill of watching the 97 results. She discusses strikes generally, the role of women in the 84/85 Strike, and the images of the miners returning to Maerdy colliery.
