Alistair Williams

The interviewee remembers watching the Coronation in a house full of people, he would watch rugby in pubs sometimes but he preferred watching at home.Tryweryn did not make a big impact on him, but he realised later. The interviewee avoided the Investiture, he says that people of different ages reacted differently, and remembers being stopped by the secret police in Caernarfon. The interviewee thinks rugby has done more for the feeling of nationhood than Plaid Cymru. He remembers 1979 but cannot receive television from Wales in Wrexham so very little information from television. 1997 stays in the mind as he had a satellite by then, and stayed up but had gone to bed before the Carmarthen result was announced. He could not receive S4C until he got a satellite dish in 1991, and thought that S4C pleased the minority who already felt very Welsh. He does not remember seeing much of the Miners' Strike from the Welsh point of view. He thought that the television coverage was fair though Scargill was shown more than anyone else. Television showed the impact of police being sent to the areas from other places.
