The picture was taken in front of Compañía Unida de Irrigation del Chubut (United Irrigation Company of Chubut) in Gaiman, Chubut, Argentina. The president of the coop at the time was John Ap Hughes the tall man fourth from the left in the front row. Born in Patagonia, John Ap Hughes was the oldest son of Hugh John Hughes (Blaenau Ffestiniog) and Mary Thomas (Bangor). Mary arrived to Patagonia with her parents aboard the Mimosa (1865). She was 5 years old.
