Description

An article about a Tenovus bargain shop which opened for a week in Cardiff to raise money for the charity. An earlier article reported that "members of James Howell's sales staff have given up their day off to man the many clothes stands. Window dressers from Howell’s also gave up their time to arrange the displays."

The Tenovus Cancer Care website states:

“In 1943, Tenovus was founded by ten businessmen…. Initially, the charity funded a wide range of projects in the local area.

These ranged from building the Sunshine House for Blind Babies just outside Cardiff, to donating a washing machine to a widow with seven children who had lost an arm.

In the 1960s, Tenovus embarked on a project which was to influence our work for the next 40 years. We built the Tenovus Institute for Cancer Research in Cardiff which carried out vital research into the causes of cancer.

Since then, we have concentrated our efforts on cancer and are now recognised for our pioneering work.”

Charity shop’s target doubled

The bargain shop opened in The Hayes, Cardiff, all this week to raise funds for the charity Tenovus has already nearly doubled its target of £1000.

By closing time yesterday £1,930 had been raised-and the shop will be open again today.

There have been queues four-deep outside the shop each morning when the ladies’ committee of Tenovus, who have run the whole venture, have arrived to open up.
