Letter written to his mother, Mrs Phillips at Capão de Tigre, by Thomas Benbow Phillips at Rio Grande, dated 17 March, 1874

Thomas Benbow Phillips informed his mother that he had received a letter from Mrs Thompson and that a letter for her was enclosed. Mrs Thompson had told him she had sent him a small parcel of sermons, but they had not yet arrived. He reported that she was very happy and enjoying herself in England, and he didn't suppose she would visit Rio Grande again. Tom Hallawell would be travelling to England the following day. Thomas Benbow Phillips reported that his family were all well, and that he received regular news about his mother's health. His youngest child had been christened by Mr Otero last month, and her name was Brenhilda. He informed her that Llewelyn was in the shop, and that Tommy was his butcher, because he was looking after the butcher's shop. Arthur, Susanah and Winifred went to dancing school once a week – to learn to dance! Thomas Benbow Phillips explained to his mother that he had told her all his news.
